OCR: The Mojave desert is classed as a hot desert, and lies north of the Sonoran desert in California, spreading out to include the southern tip of Nevada. It ranges in elevation from 2000 to 4000 feet above sea level. The Mohave is drier than the Great Basin and receives only 2 - 6 inches of rain each year, mostly in winter. Some biologists class the Mojave as a transitional area between the Great Basin in the North and the Sonoran Desert in the south. The Mojave desert is the home of Death Valley, the hottest place in the USA (the maximum air temperature for the USA is 134ºF, recorded in Death Valley).
